This winter, together with Carmine Sciaudone (surf action) and Gianluca Fortunato (lifestyle and landscapes), I spent some time filming here at home in Sardinia over several days of incredible waves and excellent conditions. During those sessions, I gathered a series of clips that I chose not to share immediately, going a little against the grain of our times, where the urge to publish everything instantly on social media tends to prevail.

Those clips have now come together in a short film, Winter Trance, a piece that I hope not only reflects the quality of the waves but also captures the mystical, ancient energy of this island, an energy that continues to flow through our blood.

I wanted to capture the feeling I get while driving in search of waves, through uninhabited hills, surreal landscapes, and ancient landmarks like the imposing Nuraghe. On those drives, I feel the adrenaline build with anticipation of what might be waiting around the next corner. It’s a feeling I believe every surfer can relate to in some way.

I love spending winter in Sardinia. The dropping temperatures and wild surroundings put you in a true state of winter trance. Despite its links to mainland Europe, Sardinia remains a place full of hidden, isolated corners, some of which have no phone reception, and that only adds to its magic. It’s a particular island, shaped by certain rules, carried through its culture and roots so deep that to truly understand it, you have to immerse yourself in its energy.

I cherish time at home, to recharge, reconnect with friends, family, and the elements and hopefully score a few healthy sessions.
